The Midwest Chapter of The American Rhododendron Society (ARS) was founded in 1962 and is one of four chapters in District 11. We have 80+ members from the upper Midwest states including Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Minnesota. North and South Dakota are also within our region.

The chapter is active throughout the year and meets quarterly where we often have guest lecturers, workshops etc. The summer meeting is usually at a member’s garden.

Each spring we hold a combination chapter plant sale and truss show in the Chicago area. The public is invited and the sale includes Midwest grown hardy rhododendrons and azaleas. Many of the newer varieties not readily found at local garden centers are available. The truss show offers members an opportunity to display their prized trusses and help acquaint the public with the wide variety of cultivars that can be grown successfully in our region.

Midwest Chapter membership is automatic upon joining the ARS. This vital, active organization welcomes new members. National membership includes four issues of the colorful and informative Journal of the American Rhododendron Society, an annual meeting, a yearly convention and access to the ARS seed exchange and pollen bank. You will also receive The Rootball News, the Midwest Chapter’s colorful newsletter with the latest chapter news and events.
